Meet Wendy FurnessMA VetMB CertEP MBA MRCVS
Wendy Furness has worked with horses since graduating from Cambridge University in 1997.
Wendy’s first job was at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket completing an equine internship with an emphasis on equine lameness and problems of the performance horse. After completing this she joined Scarsdale Vets in 1998, gained a RCVS Certificate in Equine Practice in 2003 and became a partner in 2006.
Wendy has extensive experience and expertise in lameness investigation and diagnosis and performance limiting problems of sports horses. Her other areas of clinical interest are wound management, laminitis, anaesthesia and critical care.
She was involved in establishing the practice as an equine nurse training centre and setting up the equine rotation for Nottingham Veterinary students.
As well as clinical work, Wendy sits on the Strategy Board of the partnership and is involved in the growth and development of the practice as a whole. She gained an Executive MBA (Masters in Business Administration) from the University of Nottingham in 2017. This combination of over 20 years’ experience in clinical work and the focus on business management experience enables a business focus on delivering outstanding customer care across the Scarsdale Group.
In addition to the work in the practice Wendy has been a director of XLVets UK Ltd since 2010. XLVets is a community of independently-owned progressive veterinary practices that work together to achieve the highest standards of veterinary care. She also sits on the XLVets Equine Executive with responsibility for medicine purchasing.
Outside of work she has a dog called Isa (who many of you will have met), and two horses Cassie and Orla. Wendy enjoys hillwalking, running (slowly), skiing, photography and travel.
