Scarsdale Vets is celebrating the appointment of Senior Veterinary Surgeon Caroline Ward, who is the independent group’s 100th vet. This is the first time that Scarsdale Vets has employed 100 vets at any one time since it was established in 1945.
Scarsdale Vets now employs over 300 staff in Derbyshire across their nine First Opinion veterinary practices, its dedicated farm and equine unit in Markeaton and Pride Veterinary Centre – the latter being one of the largest veterinary referral hospitals in Europe. Within each of these sites, opportunities range from clinical roles including small animal vets, farm vets, vet nurses and specialists, to non-clinical roles including those in finance, HR, client care and marketing.
At present, Scarsdale Vets’ veterinary team consists of a wide range of veterinary roles. There is almost every type of vet role from farm, equine and first opinion vets through to those working within the referral team. The referral team has specialists in multiple disciplines ranging from internal medicine to neurology, residency-trained vets, and are supported by 20 residents and interns.
Scarsdale Vets’ 100th vet Caroline Ward will be working at the Stapenhill and Stretton practices, and previously worked for Scarsdale Vets for over 10 years. On her appointment, Caroline says: “The milestone of employing 100 vets is an amazing achievement for Scarsdale Vets, and for me to come back to the practice and being the 100th vet is just brilliant. It feels like I’m coming home as I’ve worked for Scarsdale Vets for many years before – including at the Stapenhill and Stretton practices where I will now be based full-time. I love the diversity of my role and I’m really looking forward to being part of the six vet team at Stapenhill and Stretton, but also being part of the wider Scarsdale Vets team.”
Within each of Scarsdale Vets’ practices provisions are made for all staff to take advantage of several training, CPD and diverse career opportunities, in both clinical and non-clinical role. This allows all staff at any stage in their career to develop specific areas and skills they are particularly interested in, and move up the career ladder in a way that suits them. These opportunities enhance the teams working at each individual practice, and in turn build the expertise and professionalism across the wider Scarsdale Vets team.
