January is traditionally the time of year we take stock of our own health and fitness plans after the over indulgence of the festive period, but is also the time we tend to be thinking about our equine aims for the coming year.
Whilst thinking about these exciting plans, whether it be at a local or national level, it is important our horses are in as good a shape as possible to achieve our goals. It is easy to be unaware that there are underlying conditions which are limiting our horse or pony’s capability. For example equine asthma, low grade lameness, subclinical laminitis or an undiagnosed heart condition. In addition other conditions such anaemia, low white cell counts and liver disease may be affecting performance but can only be detected on a blood test.
New Year Well Horse/Pony/Donkey Check
We are all familiar with the well man or well woman checks commonly offered at doctors’ surgeries, and in the months of February and March 2018 we will be offering a ‘well horse or pony’ check.
This will involve a health check with auscultation of the heart and lungs, trot up and a blood test for a health screen – just £75 inc.VAT.
Examination
- Discussion of any concerns
- Assessment at walk and trot up
- Blood sample for health screen
Can be on a yard visit or zone visit and combined with other work e.g. vaccinations/dental etc. Additional blood tests such as cushings can be carried out at the same time (additional cost). Blood screen not appropriate for use in sick horses. No further discounts apply.
