This month we find out about Jenni Rimmer, Veterinary Nurse working at Pride Veterinary Centre
When did you start working for Scarsdale Vets?
I started working here as a locum nurse in the summer of 2016, I liked it so much that I took a permanent position in late September last year.
What does your job entail on a day to day basis?
My role within the hospital is really quite varied, so each day is different depending where I am based. Most of my time is spent in the prep and theatre area of the hospital, where I undertake various roles:
- Prepping patients for all kinds of procedures
- Monitoring anaesthesia
- Working alongside different veterinary surgeons
- Dental work
The list goes on!
Occasionally I am also based in the wards area of the hospital where my focus is mostly on inpatient care, administering medications and giving lots of cuddles to our poorly patients.
What do you love the most about working at Scarsdale Vets?
I love the variety I get day to day, we see so many different patients and cases, no two days are the same, which keeps me interested in the job (and very busy). Also the team here are fantastic, they are all so dedicated and really do care about each and every patient, just how it should be.
When you are not at work, tell us a little bit about what else you do?
Outside of work I have my own fur and feathered babies to take care of, in the form of four dogs, three chickens and five ducks. They keep me on my toes as they are always looking to get into mischief. We live right in the countryside so it’s great for long walks across the Derbyshire Dales.
My fiancé and I are both keen motorbikers, we each have our own so when it’s not raining too much we are often out and about on the bikes, blowing the cobwebs away. I also enjoy dancing, my fiancé and I are regulars at our local rock ‘n’ roll dance meets, which keeps us vaguely fit and it’s great fun.
Other than that, after a hard day of work I love nothing more than curling up on the sofa with all the dogs and watching a bit of drama on the TV.
