Rupert, a 10 month old Labrador who is a regular at our Oakwood practice, was seen as an emergency while his owner was taken to hospital after being involved in a car accident.
Fortunately both Rupert and his owner walked away from a serious crash but it could have been much worse if they hadn’t been wearing their seatbelts.
As you can see, the windscreen where Rupert had been sitting is smashed. We are unsure if this is from Rupert impacting the screen or if it’s from his airbag going off. Rupert’s owner has brought him a harness to keep him safe, should anything similar happen in future. Ensuring your pet is wearing a seatbelt not only makes them safer if you are involved in an accident but it also means you are safer too.
We stock a wide range of different types of dog seatbelts at Pride Veterinary Centre where the lovely ladies at the retail desk can help you select and fit the best one for your pet.
Remember to always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines when fitting a seatbelt harness or restraint and that wherever the dog is in the car, it is restrained appropriately to prevent injury to them or other passengers.
