It was an emotional night on June 28th, when the winners of the Heroes of Derbyshire Awards were announced.

Formerly known as the Community Champion Awards, the Heroes of Derbyshire Awards aim to recognise and reward the unsung heroes of Derbyshire in a number of categories.

Scarsdale Vets were proud to sponsor the Kindness To Animals category.

Kindness To Animals Award

The Kindness to Animals was presented to the individual or group who showed commendable care and devotion to animals, domestic or wild.

The category had 3 finalists, Karen Dixon, Karl Hunderhill and Kath Wilson.

Kath Wilson won the Kindness To Animals awards for years of hard work and dedication setting up the Derwent Valley Donkey Sanctuary in Cromford. Kath set up the sanctuary 45 years ago and has dedicated her life to the rescue of abused donkeys, horses and any other animal in need of care, healing and love.

Funding for the sanctuary comes from fundraising events organised by volunteers, but the majority of the money is from Kath and partner Derek’s pensions and savings.

Kath was presented her award by Scarsdale Vets’ Marketing Manager Susan Wilkinson. Speaking of the awards, Susan says “Scarsdale Vets are delighted to recognise the care and compassion that the people of Derbyshire have for their animals.”

“We are proud to sponsor the Heroes of Derbyshire Kindness to Animals award to reward what comes naturally to all animal lovers, and certainly the 3 finalists”.
