A patient was booked in for an extensive surgery at Pride Veterinary Centre and it was expected that a blood transfusion would be required so Ginge traveled to work with his owner so he was able to donate blood, a blood test was completed on him to ensure he was fit and healthy to be a donor, and he was then ready to give blood the next morning after a full examination by the medic looking after the patient.
Ginna spent the day in our separate chemotherapy ward, with one of our medicine nurses where he spent much of the day on the nurse’s lap and exploring the room, very relaxed! When needed, he was lightly sedated to ensure the blood donation was as stress free for him as possible, he was very well behaved throughout. Afterwards he enjoyed his dinner and was soon back at home playing with his favourite toy.
We are always needing more feline blood donors, as there is no Pet Blood Bank as there is for dogs. For more information on cat blood donations, please call us on 01332 678333 and ask to speak to a member of our nursing team.
