Large animal rescue was a hot topic at our Markeaton practice yesterday.
Tom, Danny, Mick, Kate and Steven from the Alfreton Community Fire Station joined our farm and equine team on Monday 5th July for a presentation and demonstration.
The team from Alfreton Community Fire Station led the event which was held at our Markeaton practice. Set in the tranquil Allestree area of Derby, the Scarsdale Farm and Equine practice is a purpose-built facility offering the very best in farm and equine veterinary services.
The session began with a talk on the capabilities and equipment available for large animal rescue. The team then outlined what to do in the event of an incident with a large animal.
The outdoor demonstration meant that employees were able to gather safely outdoors. They watched a demonstration of a horse rescue using a life-sized plastic horse which weighed around 300kg. The session also meant that together, teams were able to share their knowledge and expertise and ask any questions.
This animal rescue specialist team have extra equipment and more regular hands-on training to equip themselves for large-scale rescues.
Thank you to the Alfreton Community Rescue team for an insightful talk and fantastic demonstration.
