The Beef Feed Efficiency Programme aims to develop breeding tools to enable beef producers to select cattle for improved feed efficiency.

Limousin sired calves are wanted for purchase, or on loan via a retained ownership arrangement from dairy or beef herds. The B&B arrangement can be subsidised such that feed and bedding costs are covered by the project for the trial period (approximately three months).

Suitable calves can come from either beef or dairy herds and will:

* originate from a farm that is able to supply 4-16 steer calves from the same, currently (or previously) registered Limousin bull/AI sire

* be suitable for entry to a rearing unit (2-4 weeks of age) or

* be weaned and aged up to approximately 7 months old

Market prices will be paid for any selected cattle, alternatively cattle can be taken on a B&B arrangement.
