This prickly patient was brought into Springwood Veterinary Centre by a concerned member of the public after it was found wandering dazed on a road.
Broken spines around the head area and blood coming from the nose showed it had suffered some kind of trauma. He was given a general anaesthetic to enable us to examine it properly as hedgehogs tend to curl up when disturbed, upon examination a broken lower jaw was detected.
This was wired together with strong, dissolvable suture material to avoid another anaesthetic being required to remove it and the hedgehog was allowed to recover in a dark, quiet box.
