Staff Focus: Karen Davis

Each month we introduce you to a member of our team. To keep the practices working effectively, we have a small army of staff working tirelessly to provide you and your pets with the very best in veterinary care.

This month we find out about Karen Davis, Partner working at Park Farm.

When did you start working for Scarsdale Vets?

I started at Markeaton Farm and Equine Centre as a student in 1987 going out with the (then small) team of farm and equine vets.

I then saw practice 1988-1990 at the small animal hospital on Kedleston Road until I qualified in July 1990 when I took a job that had become available a few months before.

How the time flies! Things were certainly different back then with a handful of small animal vets and limited equipment. I worked every day in the hospital doing operations then consulted in the evening. There were no appointments then, it was ‘open surgery’ meaning many late finishes.

I became a partner in 2000.

What does your job entail on a day to day basis?

I do routine consults including vaccinations, blood samples and pet passports and also see a variety of sick pets. I give advice on nutrition, dental care and behaviour. The latter being one of my favourite topics of discussion. I enjoy taking the time with our anxious patients to make their visit less stressful.

What do you love the most about working at Scarsdale Vets?

I now work part-time and am mainly based at Park Farm although I do some weekend work at Pride Veterinary Centre and I occasionally fill in for the other vets at our practices.

I love being part of the Park Farm Team. We know many of the clients. Somebody is always popping in with their pet to say hello or to ask advice. It’s lovely seeing familiar faces but also meeting new pets who often arrive with the whole family in tow.

When you are not at work, tell us a little bit about what else you do?

Outside of work I keep busy with my 3 children and 2 golden retrievers. I enjoy running, the gym, cooking, travel and anything involving champagne.
