Herdsman Certificate

FarmSkills is XL Vets’ new training programme for farmers. 

This involves training farmers through workshops and discussion groups, and aims to provide a consistent delivery, so you can be sure they will learn about the same things in a similar way, no matter where you live in the country.

We are providing FarmSkills training through Scarsdale’s Herdsman Certificate as a series of modules. These are very practical, small group (6-8 people) workshops to ensure maximum benefit.  Some modules may be suitable for you as the farmer/manager whereas some might be more useful for other members of your team.  Increasingly with farm assurance, you are expected to prove your training and expertise.   With FarmSkills, you will receive a certificate of completion for each module to display in your herd health plan. 

The four core modules include:

• Heifer health from birth to weaning
• Mastitis prevention: making the most of your records
• Practical fertility and obstetrics
• Feeding the high yielding dairy cow
