Welcome

The Scarsdale Farm unit has existed as a distinct stand-alone unit for around 20 years. We were one of the first practices in the country to decide that farmers needed their own dedicated service, rather than trying to juggle the visits with the requirements of the pet owning public. We now have a vibrant mixture of the old and new with the 3 senior farm partners having close to 60 years farm experience between them and a team of young newer graduates bringing the latest ideas and techniques from the colleges. In addition to this the farm practice is the associate practice for the teaching of practical farm medicine and surgery for the Nottingham Veterinary School. Because of this relationship we have senior members of the Nottingham Vet School farm animal team working on a regular basis in the practice and available for consultancy on any of our clients units. Much of this high quality second opinion work is being carried out on a free or reduced-charge basis as a contribution to student teaching.

The practice covers a wide area of the Midlands with farm units in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Birmingham. We offer the traditional farm veterinary 24 hour emergency cover for the usual calvings, lambings and ill animals in addition to a system of regular routine preventative Health visits for the larger farmers. We also offer beef herd and sheep flock health plans .

The practice can offer consultancy visits on any aspect of farm production or health with a large number of clients making use of our cell-count monitoring service. We also some of the latest farm data software analysis available via Total Vet which is able to access data from almost any farm program. In some cases this data is being analysed at no cost by the Nottingham farm consultancy team.

All farm procedures are backed up by our on-site laboratory (one of the largest laboratories attached to a private practice in the UK). The laboratory can offer same day results resulting in more accurate treatment and prognosis for individual animals in addition to providing results to complement the farm consultancy work.

We offer a full range of day-time training from XL Vets Farmskills program covering everything from obstetrics to calf rearing. These day modules can be combined into a herdsman’s certificate to give a more complete education. The day training modules are complemented by a wide range of evening meeting appealing to small-holders, beef clients, dairy, sheep and goat owners.
